The demolition of the Oroz dairy farm in Azpilagaña Sur will give way to the construction of a 328-room student residence in a seven-storey ground-floor building. The Pamplona City Council has already granted the works permit. It is the first development of the future commercial and office area at the southern entrance to Pamplona. The future student residence is promoted by Merkel Capital, a Barcelona-based investment firm founded by Jokin Andueza Retegui from Navarre. With the backing of Anglo-Saxon funds, Merkel Capital develops residential, hotel and leisure projects. Through a rental contract, the Pamplona residence will be managed by the US operator Yugo, world leader in the student residence sector with 35,000 beds worldwide. In Spain he has residences in Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, Salamanca, Seville, Oviedo and Barcelona. Merkel Capital has an agreement with Yugo to invest 400 million euros over the next four years in residential projects in different cities, such as Sabadell, Granada and Valencia.
